How To Prevail is my attempt at helping my friends and family survive that next natural disaster, emergency crisis, criminal or terrorist attack. I am past the thought of “if” it will happen and have decided when it does, I want us to prevail.
I’ve been a protector all my life.
I am the oldest child. I was a hall monitor in elementary school. I was a safety patrol. I was a boy scout. I am a US Marine. I was a federal police officer. I was a protective security agent. I was bodyguard. I have traveled to over a dozen hostile places in the world provided protection for individuals and family. I was an armor bearer and the head of security ministry at my church. I am known internationally as the Black Man With A Gun. I am a pastor.
Civil unrest, riots and the craziness that happens in and around cities is a real threat to regular law abiding people. Responsible people have plans in place to protect theirselves and families from it.
This is apolitical. This is for the preservation of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. This site will feature contributors, experts, trainers and overcomers that will share their stories, techniques, and experience to help you prevail.
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge – Hosea 4:6
It’s not about guns.
I love waxing philosophically about rifles, pistols and the best ammunition to use for a certain circumstance but you can’t use a gun for protect you from the rain, give you enough calories to operate, to or drink water with. It’s a necessary tool but not the only thing you need. We are going past the hyperbole and keeping it simple.
The podcast album art
The podcast album art features a business woman walking with a bat. The imagery of it says to me “she ain’t having it.” She is prepared. She will win(prevail) if provoked. I was thinking of the veracity of a mother bear protecting her cubs.
I love the AMC Walking Dead series. It is a horror/fantasy that shows the “evil that men do” when we are stripped down to just our basic human needs. There are some teaching moments on that show. Don’t be lulled into a false sense of security in your day to day journey. It doesn’t take much in the way of a natural disaster like a snowstorm, power outage, hurricane, tornado, earthquake, or fire to change your world for more than 72 hours.
Part of preparation is knowing exactly what kind of disasters you might face and knowing what to do in each situation. You may not be at home when disaster strikes. In the case of an unexpected emergency, you should be prepared to react from different locations, including your workplace or car. The time to figure these things out isn’t while a hurricane is bearing down on your home, or after a tsunami warning has been issued.
We are going to be ready, together. We are going to be victorious. We will prevail.

A Wild Boar was sharpening his tusks busily against the stump of a tree, when a Fox happened by. Now the Fox was always looking for a chance to make fun of his neighbors. So he made a great show of looking anxiously about, as if in fear of some hidden enemy. But the Boar kept right on with his work.
“Why are you doing that?” asked the Fox at last with a grin. “There isn’t any danger that I can see.”
“True enough,” replied the Boar, “but when danger does come there will not be time for such work as this. My weapons will have to be ready for use then, or I shall suffer for it.”
Moral of this story:
Preparedness for war is the best guarantee of peace.
